Quick Guide

Everything you can do with GoogleAdsMCP. Copy any prompt, paste it into Claude, and go.

Audit

Claude pulls campaign stats, keyword quality scores, conversion tracking, and Abs.Top IS data — then gives you a structured report with specific recommendations, not just numbers.

Audit my campaigns
Full structured audit: spend, ROAS, conversions, CTR, Abs.Top IS. Flags underperformers and tells you why — including wasted budget and keyword issues.
Which campaigns are wasting budget?
Claude finds high-spend campaigns with low ROAS or zero conversions and explains the likely cause — broad match, poor landing page, or bidding issue.
Check my conversion tracking
Claude lists all conversion actions, flags ones with no value set (making ROAS meaningless), and checks for potential double-counting.
Which ad groups have low Abs.Top IS?
Absolute Top Impression Share below 30% means you're losing top positions. Claude identifies these and recommends bid or Quality Score improvements.
Show me all campaigns and their stats for last month
Full campaign breakdown with budget, clicks, cost, conversions, and Abs.Top IS — formatted as a table ready to share with a client.
Save this audit as a Word document
After any audit Claude can produce a formatted .docx you can send straight to your client — branded, structured, professional.
Claude never changes your account without asking first. Every write action — pausing campaigns, adding keywords, creating ads — goes through a confirmation step where you see exactly what will happen before you approve.
Keyword Gaps — Search Console

The most powerful feature. Claude cross-references your organic queries from Search Console against your active Google Ads keywords — and surfaces the gaps where real search demand has no paid coverage.

Find keyword gaps between my organic traffic and paid keywords
Claude fetches your top Search Console queries, compares them to your active keywords, and returns a table of high-impression terms you're not bidding on.
List my Search Console properties
Shows all properties your Google account has access to. Call this first so Claude uses the correct site URL for gap analysis.
Show top organic queries for my site
Top queries by impressions and clicks from Search Console — sorted to show the highest-demand terms. Great starting point for new campaign ideas.
Which organic pages get the most traffic?
Top landing pages by organic clicks. Use this to find pages worth building paid campaigns around — if it converts organically, it'll convert with paid traffic too.
Find gaps and build ad groups for the best ones
Claude finds the gaps, presents the top 10 as a table for your approval, then builds SKAG ad groups with copy and exact/phrase keywords — all in one conversation.
What are my competitors bidding on that I'm not?
Claude runs competitor research using Auction Insights + fetches their landing pages, then compares their signals against your keyword list to find gaps.
Why this beats any other gap analysis. Most tools scrape keywords from third-party databases. This uses your actual Search Console data — real queries that real users searched for and landed on your site. The impressions are real demand signals, not estimates.
GA4 Reports

Cross-reference your paid traffic with GA4 data. Find campaigns that get clicks but don't convert, or landing pages with high bounce rates from paid visitors.

List my GA4 properties
Shows all GA4 properties your Google account has access to. Call this first so Claude uses the correct property ID for reports.
Show GA4 sessions by channel for the last 30 days
Sessions, bounce rate, and conversions split by Paid Search, Organic, Direct, and other channels — instantly shows if paid traffic is actually converting vs organic.
Which landing pages have the highest bounce rate from paid traffic?
Claude runs a GA4 report by landing page filtered to Paid Search channel. High bounce = landing page problem, not a keyword problem.
Compare paid vs organic conversions in GA4
Side-by-side channel comparison with conversion rate. Useful for justifying paid spend or finding channels that outperform their budget allocation.
Show performance by device in GA4
Sessions and conversions split by mobile, desktop, and tablet. If mobile converts at 0.5% and desktop at 4%, your mobile landing page needs work — not your bids.
GA4 report by campaign name for last month
Matches GA4 session data to your Google Ads campaign names — shows which campaigns actually drive engaged sessions vs just clicks.
Campaign Management

Pause, update, and manage campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads in bulk. Claude always shows you exactly what will change before doing anything.

Pause all ad groups with zero conversions this month
Claude fetches the list, presents it as a table for your approval, then pauses exactly those ad groups — nothing else.
Add these negative keywords to my account
Claude adds account-level negatives that apply to all campaigns including Performance Max. Just paste the list and it handles match types.
Update the landing page URL on all ads in this campaign
Claude uses update_ad_urls to change final URLs without recreating ads — preserving any existing Quality Score history.
List all my ad groups in the search campaign
Full ad group list with IDs, status, and campaign. Useful before pausing, adding keywords, or creating new ads to find the right ad group ID.
Add keywords to this ad group
Claude adds Exact and Phrase match only — never Broad Match unless you explicitly ask. Shows the full list for approval first.
List all active ads in this campaign
Shows all Search ads with headlines, final URLs, and status. Use this to review copy quality or find ad IDs before making changes.
Exact and Phrase match only. Claude never adds Broad Match keywords unless you explicitly ask. Broad Match is the #1 cause of wasted spend in Google Ads — the built-in guides enforce this by default.
Build Campaigns

Build Search and Performance Max campaigns from scratch. Claude reads your site, proposes the structure, gets your approval, then creates everything — all campaigns start PAUSED.

Build a Search campaign for this landing page
Claude fetches your page, extracts keywords and signals, proposes SKAG ad groups with copy, gets your approval, then creates the campaign PAUSED with a capped budget.
Create a Performance Max campaign for my product
Claude creates the campaign and asset group — headlines, descriptions, business name, and search themes. Images are pulled from your asset library or generated.
Add search themes to my PMax asset group
Search themes tell Google what intent to target in Performance Max. Claude adds up to 50 per asset group — use gap analysis results as input.
Add new headlines and descriptions to my PMax asset group
Claude uses add_asset_group_assets to add copy to existing PMax asset groups — no need to recreate the campaign.
Create ad groups for these keywords with copy
Provide a keyword list and a landing page. Claude builds SKAG ad groups with Exact + Phrase match keywords and one RSA per group.
What images do I have in my Google Ads asset library?
Lists all images with dimensions and whether they qualify for PMax landscape (1.91:1) and square (1:1) requirements — before you start building.
Everything starts PAUSED. This is enforced server-side in the code — not just a setting Claude follows. No campaign can go live or spend money until you manually enable it in Google Ads. Budget is also capped server-side.
Images for PMax

Generate AI images for Performance Max asset groups, or upload your own. Claude generates the image, shows it to you for approval, and only uses it when you say yes.

Generate a landscape image for my PMax campaign — clean product photo on white
Claude generates a 1.91:1 ratio image (minimum 600×314px), shows the URL for preview, and waits for approval before using it. Requires an OpenRouter API key.
Generate an image in the same style as my logo
Attach your logo or brand image in the Claude chat, then ask Claude to generate a new image matching that style using generate_image_styled.
Upload this image to use for my campaign
Attach any image in Claude chat. Claude uploads it to the server and returns a public URL — then you upload that to Google Ads asset library.
List my saved images
Shows all images previously generated or uploaded through GoogleAdsMCP — ready to reference for style-matching or reuse.
Image generation requires an OpenRouter API key. Add it in MCP Settings — free keys available at openrouter.ai/keys. After generating, upload the image to Google Ads asset library via the UI before creating a PMax asset group.
Tips
You don't need to remember commands
Just describe what you want. Claude reads the built-in Google Ads guides and picks the right tools automatically. "Audit my campaigns" is enough to start.
Name the client account you want to work on
If you have an MCC with multiple clients, just say the name: "audit the Lindaclean account". Claude lists your accounts and picks the right one.
Chain audit → gap analysis → campaign in one conversation
Start with an audit, then "find keyword gaps from Search Console", then "build campaigns for the top 5 gaps" — Claude keeps full context throughout.
Ask for a Word document
After any audit or analysis, say "save this as a Word doc". You get a downloadable .docx formatted for client delivery.
Set tools to "Always approve" in Claude
In Claude's connector settings, set GoogleAdsMCP tools to "Always approve". Removes the popup on every tool call. Claude still confirms before making any account changes.
The built-in guides update automatically
GoogleAdsMCP includes Google Ads audit and creation guides Claude reads before acting — shaped by 10+ years of agency work. We update them as we learn what performs.
